Done with Karazhan
Seven months after starting to raid Karazhan, I have just received the final piece of loot I was hoping to get from there. Now it’s time to step aside and let the other tanks get geared as successfully as I have been, and get their badges for even better loot.
While seven months might seem long, this included a two month Kara break for me due to medical reasons, and then we raid very casually, only every other weekend. The final two drops for me this last Sunday were Xavian Stiletto and Mantle of Abrahmis. The latter had us flabbergasted, because in seven months it had never dropped before. Bye-bye, Spaulders of Dementia, you served me well, you fugly piece of loot. Not a huge upgrade by any means, but overall they look nicer. Even orc girls have a sense of fashion.
Now, there’s one drop I never got, Battlescar Boots, but with Nalorakk already down for us, the Jungle Stompers are even more to my liking.
That said, Kara’s not off the table for me content-wise, because I would love to take my rogue through there, and I have thing on my to-do list: write a boss guide for Karazhan specifically for up-and-coming tanks, what to expect.
Now wish me luck that we’ll be able to take ZA by storm as much as we did Karazhan back then (first clear in our 5th week there).
That said, that last Karazhan run was anything but smooth for me. We started with Nightbane and needed several tries to get him down. He’s my ultimate nemesis, the one boss I truly dread, and I’ll have to explain that in some other post sometime. Then on Illhoof the unthinkable happened. I lost aggro midfight and while Illhoof beat on the trigger-happy hunter, I got sacrificed, to add insult to injury. The hunter died, he came back to me, and we proceeded normally. I have no idea how this happened, as I usually have -huge- threat leads on Illhoof, and by the time he died, I had at least 30k on the next person. I don’t know. My guess here: hunter really didn’t freaking watch her aggro whatsoever. She’s superb DPS, but she must be used to tanks who lay the smack down harder. Only that I always thought I laid the smack down hard. Meh.
Netherspite was equally rough, blue beam people died left and right, and it took us three tries to actually have everything working perfectly. This one’s on me, as I flubbed up the beam assignment for blue in the first place.
And to complete the Kara run of fail, Prince presented the grand show of disastrous Infernal placement. We had our usual 5% wipe on him, with one unlucky infernal wiping the raid. Then the 2nd and 3rd tries, we had boxed in DPS and then boxed in tank. I had no freaking clue where to move him anymore, I was completely surrounded by Infernals. On the final try, he decided to give us a break, and not a single Infernal landed even close to the raid. WTB less random fights, thank you very much.

I think that orc womens have the ultimate sense of fashion since they have to rely on that more than their Spirits-given physical appearance. Then again, my orc shaman claims that bald is beautiful — when she deigns to speak!
Congratulations on the loot acquisition and good luck with Zul’Aman; I found it to be a lot of fun with boss mechanics that were different and required more thought. As a Holy priest that has only a Holy paladin healing beside her, the challenge of that instance makes it worth coming back — especially as we keep trying for that bear mount!

@Cynra – Thanks! We’ve only been in ZA one day so far, and it looked like great fun, but the experience was also rather frustrating. In our first Akil’zon attempt we wiped at 1%, couldn’t get him down in the second attempt either, and then we had trash respawns. We then proceeded to wipe on the gauntlet about 8 times, until we then called it. Frustrating!
Let me shed big emo tears about not being a paladin tank again.

Gratz on all the Kara drops. There are many things in there I am mising but the only one I really want/need is Moroes Pocketwatch. I’ve run Kara at least 20 times and have yet to see it drop.
As for ZA, we run with me and a druid doing the tanking. We are getting 3 bosses down but haven’t tried the dragonhawk yet. That fight looks tough without a pally tank.

@Tankette – The Pocket Watch was my very first ever Kara drop, but I have heard similar times of it never dropping. We have an alliance sister guild, and their MT had to run Karazhan for a year to get her Pocket Watch. I have most excellent loot luck, I am blessed.
